“As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. And when that happens, I guess she has to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going.”-Carrie Bradshaw

“Who ran to help me when I fell, And would some pretty story tell, Or kiss the place to make it well? My mother” -Ann Taylor

Mother's Day has taken on new meanings for me each year as I continue to grow. Now that I am learning to become a step-mom, it becomes more apparent to me the true meaning of the word "Mother"...

Age 5-Mommy, I love you-please don't make me go to Kindergarten, but if I hafta to go, please let me wear my Jem shirt?

Age 10-Mom, I love you-can I please PLEASE play hockey. It only costs $500+ and you have to get up every Sunday at 5AM. And can I play the violin, the flute, be in 4H, go on vacation with Krissy, and join the choir?!

Age 13-Mom, I love you-but seriously, don't embarrass me at the mall. Just be cool. Oh ya, and can I borrow $5 for the movies, and $20 for new shoes, and $10 for these awesome striped pants that I have to have because all of the girls are getting a pair, and one last thing-can all 8 of my girlfriend stay over for the whole weekend?

Age 16-Mom, I love you-but why I can't I have a later curfew and drive in a car with my boyfriend. Everyone else's mother lets them! ::Stomp up stairs::

Age 18-Mom, I love you. I'm at college now and I really miss you. My roommate punched another girl and the administration won't let me move off campus. Can you please drive 2 hours and come get me in a blizzard and wait irritably but patiently to tell Mr. Peterson that he is going to allow me to move?

Age 22-Mom, I love you and I'm graduating college now. I never could have done this without you, but now I'm moving 2 hours away from you again because I need a job. I'm so excited, but this sucks at the same time.

Age 26-Mom, I love you. I'm happy with my life and growing into my own family. I still miss you a lot, but I'm so glad we can spend weekends together perusing antique shops and eating a great dinner at Red Lobster. Who doesn't love coffee and cheesecake with wonderful parents?! I hope you realize that I wouldn't be half of the step-mom I am today without your influences and everlasting support.

Happy Mother's Day to my hero :o)
