My first major project of the spring/summer was refinishing my Nanny's nightstand. Nanny was my great-grandmother on my Mom's side. She was a very short lady who was rumored to be an Irish witch. She was orphaned at a young age and had her name changed three times before marrying into w not-so-great wealthy family. The good new is she had my grammy, Donna- More about her later...
It took me over a year to decide what to do with this piece. I'm not usually one to paint wood as I grew up in a 100+ year old Victorian home with all original hand carved oak; however something just told me this was the right direction to take. It took me about a week from start to finish. I used high quality paint with primer. I splurged a little on the hardware, but overall cost was about $60.
Although this piece is sentimental to me because of the legacy it holds, it was a test piece for her matching lady's vanity. I plan use the same paint and hardware; however I am anticipating that will take me approximately two weeks to complete so I'm holding out for winter.
I enjoyed watching this piece take on a new life and most of all using these in my everyday life just as she did years ago.
