On the weekend of Sept 10-12, Mom and I packed a delicious picnic dinner for the car ride and went to our first WV Women's Disciples Retreat at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV. It was such a wonderful time! It was amazing to be surrounded by so many women of every kind who share the same spirit filled love toward God and the desire to be a good Christian toward others.
It enabled me to find some clarity within my life as well.I now find it hard to believe that we didn't go with Gram when she was still alive; however I'm sure that wasn't part of the overall "plan". No, I definitely feel in my heart that what was meant to be was.
The guest speaker Brenda brought some of the most prominent women of the bible to life, but with a modern twist. Our own minister, Judy, who we love so dearly, filled the hall with beautiful music each day. It was the first time in a long time that I can remember getting up at 6:30 AM and being happy about it! Of course a few of the negative buzzards that seem to be hanging around were there;however I think it was clear to all that in some cases ignorance can be blissful...especially when you ignore the ones causing you the stress ;)
Mom and I participated in the clay molding activity which I really enjoyed. I found that it was a fun, yet constructive stress reliever that I'll keep in mind for future reference. Mom started with "elephant ears" lol but ended with a beautiful angel to hang in the window. I ended up with a cross on the mountain and a butterfly for Gram and a (eventually yellow) rose for Nanny.
On the way home, we visited my Alma mater, Marietta for some yummy Tampico's dinner! Little did we know, we also ended up visiting the Sternwheeler Festival, which I managed to avoid for the entire four years I lived there. Gotta love Karma.
We are both already looking forward to next year, and have plans to stop in Point Pleasant to see the Mothman statue and Blennerhassett Isle to tour the mansion.
I really hope over time I can bring this sense of rejuvenation to others.
Check out my link to Cedar Lakes and next year's stops!
