Confessions of a Control Freak: Living Room & Kitchen Inspiration

Plans are underway to update the Living Room/Kitchen areas. Becky helped me to choose a palette based on some throw pillows Mom made out of napkins purchased at World Market earlier this year (total cost of pillows = $8!). Lucky for me, Becky is an interior designer by trade.

I used Valspar's website to upload a photo to mock up our paint choices. Their website is really cool and I highly recommend it to anyone. The Sun-Dried Tomato accent wall under the bar was chosen by Matt and the lighter color (pictured right) will be a focal wall that extends to the upstairs hallway. Tentatively, we will begin painting the last weekend of January.

The barstools to the far right were a Christmas gift from Matt's Mom Glenda (thank you!). The side chair and sofa are two options I have been considering for about a month now. Not sure what Matt thinks yet though....

During the holiday break, my friend Krissy was installing hardwood flooring into her and her husband's Waynesburg, PA home which inspired me to consider hardwood as an option for the space as well.

The carpet is in need of replacing anyway and the space is so small, the cost would be low but could help to increase the house value overall. Oh equity...something I never had to think of before LOL. The one pictured is the lock system laminate offered by Lowe's. I must say it is more cost effective than I initially thought. I am open to feedback though!

The last item I have been kicking around is a tile back splash in the kitchen. Again, the space is minimal so cost would be low; however despite this advantage every tile I really like is averaging $20.00 a square foot which is a bit extreme. Go figure it is expensive so I'm naturally drawn to it...

Any thoughts?

I highly recommend the hardwoods! And I like the handscraped of the one in the pic. Good luck!
