Often, I find myself complaining to A how nice it must be to be a guy: roll out of bed, throw on a random Hollister Co. t-shirt and jeans and poof! out the door in no time. They don't have fat jeans, skinny jeans, cute sweatpants, bloated sweatpants, so many different types of undergarments you can't even keep track of, etc. Just the other day, I had to explain the difference between panty hose, tights, cable knit tights, and Spanx (and specifically how Spanx are God's gift to women despite that when you're wearing only those you look like a sausage link packed to the hilt lol) Good Lord and men wonder why we lose our minds trying to get dressed sometimes. But then there are the moments when that perfect outfit comes together just right, you look in the mirror and you feel like the sexiest rock star ever born. Or you receive that email which shows those shoes you have been pining after for 2 months 40% off plus your frequent shopper 20% off coupon and well, since it's free shipping on orders over $75 clearly you should add that cute scarf because why pay $8 for shipping when you can pay $9.99 for a scarf and get free shipping, right?! To many women, these feel like small victories. Just a few weeks ago, I managed to buy a 5 outfit mix and match summer wardrobe (accessories included) for $100.00. I pranced in the door with my giant shopping bags, sat on the floor and pulled out each piece proudly to show A as if I had just discovered artifacts from the Lost City of Atlantis. (I completely justified these pieces were simply necessary for the honeymoon.) Fortunately, I have a great guy who just chuckles and says he bets I'll look beautiful in everything-yup I have it made.
So the next time I complain, I'm going to make it a personal goal to walk over to my closet, open those gates of heaven, and remember all the good times. It's that sensation of walking into a room in your first pair of high heels feeling like you could conquer the world, smelling the leather of your first designer handbag, or the day those old jeans from high school fit again. Ah, it's good to be the queen.
