“As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. And when that happens, I guess she has to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going.”-Carrie Bradshaw

Girls' Movie Night #2-Young Victoria

On Thursday, Aubs hosted our 2nd Girls' Movie Night full of tasty dippy food, popcorn, apple cider and the adorable Wilson Lafferty as the opening entertainment :)

The movie drawn from the box was "Young Victoria". None of us had seen it before, but by the end we were all impressed. It was a very sweet movie full of historical drama mixed with the combination of strategy and romance. It focused on her life through adolescence to her 18th birthday when she became Queen. It made me sad to watch her mother and devious uncle tried to manipulate her into signing over her power for their own gain while others around her doubted her ability to be an effective sovereign because of her age and limited experience. Of course she proceeded to prove them all wrong by implementing many changes within the kingdom and continued to become the longest ruling monarchy to date, but it was still frustrating to see the many challenges she must have faced.

As mentioned, I'm a sap for a good love story and the romance between her and Albert did not disappoint :). It is well documented in history that they were one of the few monarch marriages based on true love and the movie exemplified it in a wonderful way. The fact that Rupert Friend is quite handsome didn't hurt either!

In addition to oohing and aahing over the romance that unfolded between the two, I spent the majority of the movie coveting the wardrobe. It was apparent the director had no monetary limit when creating the beautiful dresses! If only we all had an excuse to dress in full regalia beyond Halloween!

In conclusion, I highly recommend this movie to all who are looking for a good Friday night flick!
